Instructions
Step 1
Beat egg whites, cream of tartar, and salt until soft peaks form. Add brown sugar gradually, beating until very stiff.
Step 2
Outline 3 circles, 8 inches (20 cm) each, on lightly greased foil-lined cookie sheets. Spread meringue smoothly over circles.
Step 3
Bake in a 275°F (140°C) oven for about 50 minutes until dry and firm. Cool before removing from foil.
Step 4
For filling, beat cream cheese, milk, and granulated sugar until smooth. Melt chocolate chips over low heat, cool, and beat into cheese mixture.
Step 5
Whip cream until stiff and fold into the chocolate-cheese mixture. Spread between meringue layers, saving some to frost the top and sides.
Step 6
Chill assembled torte for 8 hours or overnight. Cut into wedges to serve.
