Instructions

Step 1
Whip up Nigella's Emergency Brownies for a sweet treat in no time! Perfect for those cozy weekends or a quick chocolate fix anytime. Your family will love this delicious goodness! Ingredients: • 50g unsalted butter, softened • 50g soft light brown sugar • 1 tablespoon maple syrup or golden syrup • 3 tablespoons plain flour • 3 tablespoons cocoa powder • 1/4 teaspoon sea salt flakes • 1 large egg, at room temperature • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract • 50g walnut pieces • 50g dark or milk chocolate chips (optional) Directions: 1. Preheat your oven to 170°C (150°C fan) or 325°F. 2. In a small saucepan, heat the butter, sugar, and syrup over low heat, stirring occasionally, until the butter is melted and the sugar dissolves. Remove from heat and let it cool for a few minutes. 3. In a separate bowl, combine the plain flour, cocoa powder, and sea salt. Gradually stir this dry mix into the melted butter and sugar until smooth. 4. Whisk the egg lightly with the vanilla extract, then mix it into the batter until fully combined. Fold in the walnut pieces and chocolate chips, if desired. 5. Pour the batter into a foil baking tin, approximately 18 x 11 x 5cm, and spread it evenly. 6. Bake in the oven for 15–20 minutes. The edges should start to pull away slightly from the tin, and the top should look set but still soft in the center. 7. Let the brownies cool in the tin on a wire rack for about 20–30 minutes. While they’re still warm, slice into 2 or 4 pieces and serve.
