Instructions
Step 1
Get a large saucepan big enough to hold the ham and cabbage. Place the ham into the pan and fill with cold water until covered.
Step 2
Bring the pan to simmering point on the hob and remove any salty foam that appears on the surface of the water. Replace the lid and leave to simmer for 1 hour.
Step 3
In the meantime, prepare the cabbage by cutting into strips then rinsing under the tap. Then set aside.
Step 4
After 60 minutes, carefully place the cabbage into the pan with the ham and simmer for a further 20 minutes with the lid off.
Step 5
After 20 minutes, remove the bacon joint from the pan and slice into small steaks.
Step 6
Drain the cabbage and serve onto plates. Place the bacon on top and serve with your favourite potatoes.
