Instructions

Preheat oven. Grease and line an 18cm round tin.

Step 2
Combine sifted flour, sugar and salt in a large bowl. Rub in butter with fingers until the moisture resembles fine crumbs. Add apples and gently combine. Stir in egg and enough milk to make a stiff batter. Spread in tin and place an extra apple on top. Sprinkle with demerara sugar. Bake until cooked.
