Instructions

Making the syrup (Tip: Do this the night before so it’s ready to go).

Step 1
Combine 4 cups of sugar and 4 cups of water in a large pot over medium heat.
Step 2
Stir just until the sugar is completely dissolved and the liquid becomes clear (do not boil for too long, or it will caramelize).
Step 3
Remove from heat and let it cool.
Step 4
Slice up 2 lemons and put them in the fridge.

Preparing the lemonade

Step 5
Combine 2 cups of pure lemon juice, 2 cups of your prepared syrup and 12 cups of water into a pitcher, preferably one with a spout to make it easier for kids to serve mess free.
Step 6
Let the kids taste-test the mixture to ensure the sweet-to-tart balance is just right and make adjustments as necessary. You may need to add more syrup or more lemon juice based on your preferences.
Step 7
Add some ice to the pitcher (not too much or it will get watered down as it melts) and float some lemon slices on top.

Some tips to make it run smoothly

Step 8
Depending on how much evaporates during the boiling process and how much you end up using in Step 5, you might have enough syrup for a pitcher refill. If not, you might want to make a second batch so you're ready.
Step 9
Keep a cooler handy with ice that you can add to the cups during the serving process.
