Instructions
Step 1
Cut the cubed steaks into bite-sized pieces.
Step 2
Add flour to a bowl or shallow dish and season it to your liking. Lightly coat the steak pieces in the seasoned flour.
Step 3
Heat 3–4 tablespoons of oil in a large cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat.
Step 4
Add the steak bites and sear on both sides. Do not cook them completely through.
Step 5
Remove the steak bites from the skillet with a slotted spoon and set aside.
Step 6
Add the 2 packets of onion soup mix, 2 tablespoons of flour, and 4 cups of water to the skillet. Stir well, scraping up the browned bits from the bottom of the pan.
Step 7
Bring the gravy mixture to a boil.
Step 8
Return the steak bites to the skillet. Reduce the heat to low and cover.
Step 9
Simmer for 1 hour, stirring occasionally, until the steak is tender and the gravy has thickened.
Step 10
Serve hot over mashed potatoes or white rice, spooning plenty of onion gravy over the top.
