Instructions
Step 1
Activate the Yeast: Combine the warm water, 1 tablespoon of the sugar, and the active dry yeast in a large bowl. Let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
Step 2
Mix Wet Ingredients: Stir in the warm milk, beaten eggs, and salt.
Step 3
Combine Dry and Wet: In a separate large bowl, mix the flour, remaining sugar, and cut in the shortening until crumbly. Stir the yeast mixture into the dry ingredients to form a sticky dough.
Step 4
First Rise: Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rise in a warm place for about 45 minutes to 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
Step 5
Shape the Rolls: Punch down the dough. Turn it out onto a lightly floured surface, roll it out slightly, and cut into equal pieces. Form smooth balls and place them close together in a greased baking pan.
Step 6
Second Rise: Cover and let the shaped rolls rise again for 30 minutes.
Step 7
Bake: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Bake the rolls for 12 to 14 minutes until golden brown.
Step 8
Finish: Brush the hot rolls immediately with melted butter for a soft, shiny crust
