Heart Shaped Churros Recipe

These heart shaped churros have been one of my best performing videos on all platforms, for good reason! They are so cute, quick, and fairly easy to make. Fried goodness dipped in cinnamon sugar….and they’re heart shaped…need I say more? This is a must to try.

For the dough:

1 cupwater

28gunsalted butter
melted

25ggranulated sugar

¼ tspsalt

1 cupall purpose flour

Instructions
Preparation:
Step 1
1. Prepare the cinnamon sugar: in a small plate, Combine the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon.

Step 2
2. Prepare the pastry bag: You’ll need a large piping bag that’s fitted with a 1M Wilton open star tip.
Step 3
3. Prepare the parchment paper: Cut 5 equal sized squares (6×6”).

4. Prepare the baking sheet: Line it with paper towels.
For the dough :

5. In a medium sauce pan over medium heat, combine the water, granulated sugar, salt and butter. Bring to a boil.




Step 6
6. Once it boils, lower the heat to low and dump in all of the flour at once. Mix as soon as you add it until a dough forms. (Use a wooden spoon or a non stick spatula)
Step 7
7. Continue mixing the dough on low heat until it’s no longer clumpy. It should be smooth and pull away from the pan once ready.
Step 8
8. Take the dough off of the heat and transfer to a separate bowl. Flatten it out and let it cool down for no longer than 5 minutes.

9. Add 1 large egg and the vanilla extract. Fold until well combined.


Step 10
10. Place the dough into the prepared piping bag and push it down using a spatula. Get rid of any air bubbles.
Step 11
11. Pipe the hearts onto the parchment paper. Do this while the dough is still slightly warm so it’s easier to pipe. (Make sure that the ends are connected so they don’t separate while frying)
To fry:

12. In a medium saucepan, heat 2” of vegetable oil to 370F (190c)

13. Using a wooden spatula, carefully drop the churros into the oil. Peel back the parchment paper after a few seconds.
Step 14
14. Fry on both sides for 1-2 minutes until golden brown. (Flip them using chopsticks)
Step 15
15. Take them out of the oil and place them on the baking sheet that’s lined with paper towels. Allow to drain for 30-60 seconds.
For coating:

16. While they’re still warm and oily, dip them into the cinnamon sugar mixture that we prepared earlier.

17. Serve with dulce de leche and enjoy them while they’re still fresh.
