Instructions

Step 1
Get the dough ready: Put the butter, sugar, salt, and water in a medium pot. Bring the mixture to a boil and melt the butter over medium heat. Add the flour all at once and turn the heat down to low. Using a wooden spoon, stir the mixture thoroughly until a smooth ball of dough emerges. Take off the heat and allow it to cool for five minutes.

Add Egg and Vanilla: Add the egg and vanilla essence to the dough when it has cooled a little. Mix until all ingredients are combined and the dough is shiny and smooth.

Heat the Oil: Preheat vegetable oil in a saucepan or deep fryer to 375°F (190°C). To make sure the oil is at the proper temperature, use a thermometer.

Pipe the Churros: Spoon the dough into a star-tipped piping bag. Cut the dough at the end of each strip with scissors after carefully piping 4-6 inch strips of dough into the heated oil. To prevent crowding, fry three to four churros at a time.
