Nancy's Cream Cheese Clam Dip
7 steps
Prep:1h 10min
The ultimate indulgent chip dip! I leaned how to make this from my mother when I was a teenager and have been making it for years. I made a few tweaks to the recipe along the way and it is one of my favorites.
Cream cheese clam dip is big on flavor and will have you craving it over and over. I've had guests standing over the serving bowl scarfing down chips with this dip. The unctuous smoothness of cream cheese, the briny chewiness of clams, the umami goodness of Worcestershire and heat from hot sauce combined with the saltiness of potato chips will delight your taste buds. I've made this for hundreds of parties, and it is one of the first dishes gone and always followed by compliments.
What drinks might you pair it with? Cream cheese clam dip has bold flavor; so you might think you need a drink that will not be overpowered by this dip. My personal favorites are whiskeys, beer, but an ice-cold martini would work well too. Surprisingly, bubbly is an excellent complement as it pairs well with the saltiness of the chips and is a palette cleanser. Whatever your drink of choice, have a few chips with the dip (if you can limit yourself!) and sip. You will find yourself in your happy place.
Cream cheese clam dip is easy to make and is full of flavor. I will be the first to admit this isn't health food. In this recipe I reduced the fat content by using Neufchatel cream cheese instead of full fat cream cheese without losing the flavors I want. Combine it with reduced-fat potato chips and you can feel a little less guilty for indulging yourself in this treat.
Go ahead and give this a try and let me know how much you enjoyed it.
Nutrition information is for the cream cheese clam dip only. Number of servings varies by how much dip goes onto each potato chip. Typically there are 8-10 chips per serving.
