Ingredients

⅓ cupwater
2 tablespoonsPumpkin Syrup
2 tablespoonscocoa powder
unsweetened natural, Dutch-processed may be substituted
2 tablespoonsgranulated sugar
1 ouncesemi-sweet chocolate
or dark, chopped, I prefer 54-72 percent cacao
¾ cupmilk
or half-and-half, to keep recipe vegan, use almond, soy, or coconut milk
Marshmallows
or whipped cream, optional, for garnishing
Chocolate shavings
optional, for garnishing
pumpkin pie spice
optional, for garnishing
Instructions
Step 1
Combine water, pumpkin syrup, cocoa powder, sugar, and chocolate in a small saucepan and heat over medium heat to melt and dissolve ingredients, whisking constantly.
Step 2
As soon as mixture has melted and is smooth and just begins to boil, slowly pour in the milk, whisking constantly.
Step 3
Heat for another 30 to 60 seconds, or long enough to be nicely warmed through, without boiling; whisk nearly constantly.
Step 4
Pour into a mug, garnish as desired, and serve immediately.
