Step 1
make sure that your caramel is firm, chill if needed, or else it will dissolve into the brownies

preheat oven t 170oC
grease a 20cm square cake tin

PUT THE BUTTER, CASTER SUGAR AND SYRUP IN A SAUCPAN AND PLACE OVER A MEDIUM TO LOW HEAT

stir the mixture until its smooth and the sugar has almost melted

remove from the heat and stir in the chocolate till smooth

Step 6
pour into a bowl and cool for 20 minutes until lukewarm
Step 7
mix in the egg and vanilla

sift in the flour and a pinch of salt, fold through until just combined


Step 9
pour half the mixture into the tin
Step 10
dollop 16 equal size spoonfuls of caramel on top

Step 11
sprinkle over shards of 2 crunchies

pour the remaining brownie mixture

bake for 35-40 minutes, the brownie should still wobble a bit

sprinkle over the remaing crunchie
