Instructions

Step 1
In a small bowl, stir yeast into 1/4 cup of water. Stir in sugar. Let stand for 10 min (Yeast is active if mixture foams and doubles in volume.)
Step 2
In a large bowl, or the bowl of a stand mixer, combine 1 1/2 cups flour, salt, and margarine. Add remaining 3/4 cup of water and all of the foaming yeast mix to the dry ingredients. Stir, or mix on 2 with a dough hook of a stand mixer, until a soft dough forms.
Step 3
Remove dough from bowl onto a floured surface. Knead until it is smooth and elastic, the cover with a tea towel and let rest for 10 minutes (it will not rise during this time.
Step 4
Roll out the dough to approximately a 12 x 8 inch rectangle. Roll from the short end, tightly. Seal each end by pinching down on the seams. Place the loaf, seam down, into a greased 9x5 loaf pan.
Step 5
Cover completely and allow to rise in a warm place until the dough has doubled in size, usually about 1 hour.
Step 6
Preheat oven to 375°F. When dough has fully risen, bake in preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown in color. Remove from pan immediately and allow to cool on a wire rack.
