Instructions
Step 1
Preheat oven to 180 °C (356 Fahrenheit).
Step 2
If you use a frozen puff pastry sheet: Lay it on a clean work surface and allow it to thaw for 10 minutes.
Step 3
For the cream cheese filling: Mix the egg yolk, powdered sugar with the cream cheese. Add the vanilla extract and the nutella, mix until smooth. Set aside.
Step 4
Unfold the puff pastry and with a heart-shaped cookie cutter cut it into equal parts.
Step 5
With a toothpick or a sharp knife, score an inner heart. You don’t want to cut all the way through the pastry, so it will rise around the filling, and creates a little wall so the filling doesn’t escape.
Step 6
Place about 1 teaspoon of the filling onto the center of each puff pastry.
Step 7
Bake for 13-14 minutes. They will puff up, and the edges should be golden. Remove from the oven and transfer to a cooling rack.
Step 8
If you wish to drizzle it with icing or with powdered sugar, allow them to cool completely before you do it.
