Instructions

Step 1
Melt half the butter in a saucepan and fry the minced beef until browned, stir- ring to break up any lumps.
Step 2
Add the chopped onion, carrots and mushrooms and cook for 10 minutes or until softened slightly.
Step 3
Stir in the flour, then pour in the beef stock and Worcestershire sauce, with salt and pepper to taste.
Step 4
Bring to the boil, stirring, then cover the pan and simmer for 30 minutes.
Step 5
Cook the potatoes in a saucepan of salted boiling water for about 20 minutes or until tender.
Step 6
Drain thoroughly and mash with a potato masher. Add salt, pepper and nutmeg to taste.
Step 7
Set the oven at 200°C /400°F / gas
Step 8
Spoon the meat mixture into an ovenproof dish.
Step 9
Cover with the potato and mark the top with a fork.
Step 10
Bake for about 25 minutes until the potato topping is browned.
