Instructions

Step 1
Put the flours, salt and bread soda in a large bowl and mix well. In a small pot warm 50ml of the buttermilk, add the molasses and allow to dissolve.
Step 2
Pour the warmed buttermilk mixture and the remaining buttermilk into the flours and mix well with your hands or a large spoon until the mixture comes together.
Step 3
Depending on the shape of loaf you prefer, you can either scoop the mixture into a buttered and lined loaf tin or tip it out onto a lightly floured work surface, shape it into a traditional round and place on a baking tray.
Step 4
Bake it in the hot oven at 200 degrees Celsius for 10 minutes and then turn the heat down to 180 degrees Celsius and bake for a further 30-40 minutes depending on your oven. The bottom of the loaf should sound hollow when tapped.
