Step 1
Sift together flour, 1/3 cup sugar, baking powder and salt. Next add in the softened shortening and 2/3 cup milk along with the lemon and vanilla extract. Beat for two minutes. Then add in 1/3 cup milk and 1/3 cup unbeaten egg yolk. Beat another two minutes. Pour into 2 8-inch cake pans. Bake at 350° until toothpick inserted comes out clean.
