Instructions

Step 1
First, let's prepare the dough. Add the milk, water, butter, egg, and vanilla (optional) to a large mixing bowl. Mix until smooth. Slowly add in the dry ingredients and knead for 5-10 minutes or until there are no lumps).
Step 2
Cover with a damp towel and let rise for 2 hours.
Step 3
Roll out the dough to be 1/2 inch thick. Grab something circular and use it to cut the dough. Cover the dough and let sit for another 1 hour.
Step 4
Bring a large pot of oil to about 350F. Adjust the heat as you fry the doughnuts to keep the temperature around 350F (whenever you add more dough the temp will drop slightly because its colder than the oil). Also, another mom tip, add a carrot into the oil to help keep the dough from burning.
Step 5
Drop the dough in the hot oil and cook for 1.5 minutes; flip the doughnut and cook for another 1.5 minutes.
Step 6
Once slightly cooled, fill the doughnut with a piping tube if you have one, or cut a slit in the side and use a spoon like we did in the video.
Step 7
Sprinkle with powdered sugar and enjoy. Happy Hanukkah/Chanukah!
