Instructions
Step 1
For your marinade
Step 2
In a large bowl/or container big enough to hold your meat mix a bottle of Hoisin Sauce, 12 cups of water, ½ teaspoon of Chinese 5 spice powder, ¼ teaspoon of season salt, 1 tablespoon of garlic powder, 1 tablespoon of complete seasoning, 1 tablespoon of onion powder, ¼ teaspoon of ginger and 1/2 teaspoon of red food coloring and mix up.
Step 3
For your meat
Step 4
Mix 1 tablespoon of onion powder, 1 tablespoon of garlic powder, 1 tablespoon of complete seasoning, ¼ teaspoon of season salt, ¼ teaspoon of ginger, ¼ teaspoon of black pepper and ½ teaspoon of Five spice powder in a small bowl and then season your chicken. After you seasoned your meat, rub with 1 Tablespoon of sesame oil.
Step 5
Once finished you will add your seasoned meat to your marinade and let your meat marinade for a minimum of 2 hours or longer. Reserve 4 cups of your marinade for later.
Step 6
After your meat has finished marinating, you will put in the oven. Make sure your chicken is not laying on top of each other and has enough room to cook separately. Use a large baking pan or multiple pans if you have to. Pour some of your marinade in the bottom of the pan. This is so that your meat doesn’t stick to your pan and so you can reserve some of the broth later for your sticky sauce.
Step 7
Cover with foil and bake on 350 for 1 ½ hours or an hour and 30 minutes. After that time, you will pour off the broth from your meat into a bowl and set aside for your Sticky Sauce.
Step 8
For your Sticky Sauce
Step 9
In a pot add 1 bottle of Hoisin sauce, ¼ teaspoon of soy sauce, 1/3 cup of brown sugar, ¼ cup of white sugar, 1 tablespoon of honey, 1/8 teaspoon of ground ginger, 1 teaspoon of minced garlic, ¼ teaspoon of Chinese 5 spice powder, 4 cups of marinade, and ¼ teaspoon of red food coloring. Bring to a bowl and stir constantly.
Step 10
In a small bowl add 2 tablespoons of cornstarch and 4 tablespoons of the reserved broth and mix it up until cornstarch is dissolved.
Step 11
Once it starts boiling you will turn the pot on low, add in the cornstarch mixture and stir/whisk. Let your sauce simmer on low for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally until it thickens. If your sauce is not thick enough you can mix in your small bowl 1 tablespoon of cornstarch and 2 tablespoons of water, mix with a fork to dissolve the cornstarch, and add to your pot and stir and let simmer for another 10 minutes.
Step 12
Continue your meat…
Step 13
After your chicken has been cooking for an hour and 30 minutes, you will turn your oven on broil and spoon some of your sauce on top of your chicken and squeeze about 1 tablespoon of honey on the top and let sit under the broiler for about 5-10 minutes ONLY UNTIL your meat is browned.
Step 14
Once the meat is brown you will flip it over and repeat the process. Spoon some of your sauce on top and squeeze some honey on top and let sit under the broiler for about 5-10 minutes, until browned.
Step 15
*DO NOT LEAVE YOUR MEAT UNATTENDED WHILE UNDER THE BROILER BECAUSE IT WILL BURN* I personally leave my oven door slightly open so that I can see inside and watch my meat brown. This is a very quick process.
Step 16
Once you brown the chicken, you will remove them from the oven and cover in sauce and serve.
