Slice the Italian bread and lightly toast it until it's light brown on both sides. If you want to go the easy route - heat oven to 400°F. Place bread slices in a single layer on a baking sheet. Optionally, brush with olive oil for extra flavor. Bake for 7-10 minutes until golden and crisp, then transfer to a wire rack to cool.
