Instructions

Step 1
Slice and dice all the vegetables. Good thing they can't scream, right?
Step 2
Heat whatever oil in a large pot. Not too hot now! Watch that smoke point.
Step 3
Add peppers, onion, celery, and carrots in the pot, mixing until the episode of Property Brothers ends. (About 7 minutes). Then add garlic and stir while another stupid ad for Capital One plays in the background.
Step 4
Add broth. What kind? What kind do you have? I used vegetable. Feel free to choose the broth that fits your wildest fantasy.
Step 5
Beans! Drain, rinse, dump into pot with the other stuff. Did you add the bay leaf yet? No? Do it now. You should have done it when you added the broth.
Step 6
Add herbs or spices or don't. Probably not cinnamon or nutmeg though. Anything else is fair game.
Step 7
Bring to boil or something. Probably doesn't matter. I boiled for like five minutes.
Step 8
Add cabbage and set the temperature to little bubbles.
Step 9
Let it go for about an hour or eat right away. I let mine sit half the day on the stove. Don't worry, it's cold in my house, it won't rot. Who can afford heat?
Step 10
Sprinkle salt and pepper while prancing over the pot like Tinkerbell, muttering "Pixie dust for everyone!" Also finish that glass of Grocery Outlet wine you've been drinking. No judgement, they have great stuff at the GO!
Step 11
Suddenly remember that stale baguette you forgot about in the cabinet and use it to soak up the soup, softening the bread, and keeping you from wasting even MORE money. Yeah, we all know about those pants you just HAD to have and still have yet to wear... Denise...
Step 12
Start the seventh episode of Property Brothers of the day and feel the warmth of a full belly, resting your hands gently on your stomach and say to your dog for the eleventh time this month, "I need to work out." Leaving your dishes for tomorrow, roll into bed, and finish the movie you fell asleep watching last night. Happy Eating.
