Instructions
Step 1
Begin with melting the butter over a medium heat, once melted add the flour and stir well for a minute or so. Then slowly add the milk whilst continuously stirring.
Step 2
Once you have a smooth béchamel, grate in the nutmeg and give it one final stir.
Step 3
Toast the bread.
Step 4
Spread the dijon on the bottom slice, followed by some gruyere, the ham and béchamel. Add more cheese and the top slice. Then top with béchamel, another generous sprinkle of cheese and place under the grill at 220c/430f.
Step 5
Fry the egg.
Step 6
Once the cheese is bubbling and golden brown, remove from the oven and place on the fried egg on top.
Step 7
Slice and enjoy!
