Instructions

For biscuits

Step 1
Preheat oven to 450°F.
Step 2
Put 1 tbsp, bacon drippings, or shortening in an 8-inch pan or iron skillet, and place in a warm oven until shortening melts or grease is warm.
Step 3
Sift together, flour, baking powder, and salt.
Step 4
Blend in shortening with a fork or pastry blender until crumbly.
Step 5
Add milk and stir just to moisten, turn out on the floured board, and turn to coat dough with enough flour to make it easy to handle.
Step 6
pinch off 2 or 3 inch balls of dough and place in the pan, turning once so the top is coated with grease.
Step 7
Bake 12 to 15 minutes or until golden brown.

For the Gravy

Step 8
While the biscuits are baking, pour 2 cups milk into skillet or pan over medium heat and scald.
Step 9
While the milk is heating mix flour, sugar, salt, and cocoa. Add, just enough water to make a pourable paste.
Step 10
Pour cocoa paste into scalded milk and stir constantly until gravy thickens.
