In a large bowl, smash in already steamed purple yam, add in glutinous rice flour, salt, sugar, vanilla extract, melted butter and milk. Mix everything in until the dough is firm and pasty (claylike).

Take a small piece of the dough with your hands, roll into a small round donut hole (roughly 1 inch across), transfer onto a baking sheet, repeat this process until the entire dough is used up.

Once cooking oil hits the right temperature (roughly 350 °F) in a medium saucepan, gently place donut holes individually in hot oil to deep fry. Cook for a few minutes (roughly 5 minutes) on medium low heat until they float in the oil and become golden brown (use chopsticks to prevent them from being stuck to the bottom of the saucepan). Transfer deep fried donut holes onto a baking sheet to drain.
