Instructions

Step 1
Submerge the lentils in a bowl and pick out the ones that float. Rinse until water runs clear. Drain the lentils and put them in a soup pot, add 6 cups of water and cook on high heat until the water boils. Once the water boils, reduce the heat and simmer, about 30 mins until lentils have broken down. Add the salt, simmer for 15 mins. In the meantime, heat the oil in a small skillet. Add the garlic, cumin, coriander, and stir continuously for 1-2 mins, until the oil turns yellow. Remove from heat. Take a bit of the soup and pour into the skillet, stirring. Then add everything into the soup bowl, simmer for another 5 mins.
