Ingredients

French bread
cut into 1-inch cubes

8eggs
large

2 cupswhole milk

1 cupheavy cream

½ cupgranulated sugar

¼ cuplight brown sugar
packed

1 tablespoonvanilla extract

1 teaspoonground cinnamon

¼ teaspoonground nutmeg

¼ teaspoonsalt

½ cupunsalted butter
cold and diced

1 cuplight brown sugar
packed

1 teaspoonground cinnamon

¼ teaspoonground nutmeg
Instructions
Step 1
Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish and place the cubed French bread evenly in the dish.
Step 2
In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, 1/4 cup light brown sugar, vanilla extract, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg, and salt. Pour the mixture over the bread, pressing the bread down to absorb the liquid.
Step 3
Cover and refrigerate overnight.
Step 4
Next morning Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
Step 5
make the topping, combine 1 cup light brown sugar, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg, and diced butter in a bowl. Mix with a fork or your hands until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Sprinkle over the soaked bread.
Step 6
Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden and crisp.
Step 7
Serve warm with a dusting of powdered sugar or a drizzle of maple syrup, if desired.
