Step 1
Place corned beef in large pot and fill with water halfway to the top. Add the pickling spices that come with the corned beef.
Step 2
Place the pot over high heat and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to simmer and let cook 3 hours or until meat is fork tender.
Step 3
After 2.5 hours, start the braised cabbage by sauteeing the butter and onion in a large skillet over medium high heat.
Step 4
Once the onions begin to caramelize, add the cabbage and barbecue sauce. Stir until the cabbage has cooked down enough to be coated in the sauce. Reduce heat to a simmer and let braise 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Step 5
When the meat has finished cooking, remove from the water and let rest 10 minutes before slicing.
Step 6
Stir scallions into the braised cabbage just before serving under the sliced corned beef.
