Instructions
Step 1
Preheat the oven at 350°
Step 2
Break up the German chocolate bar with 1/2 cups of water then melt it and stir it.
Step 3
Seperate 4 egg yolks.
Step 4
Beat the egg whites until stiff.
Step 5
Add 2 cups of all purpose flour on another bowl.
Step 6
Add 1 tsp of Baking soda or baking powder, (baking soda might make the cake a little salty baking powder elevates it the same way just without any saltiness) in the same bowl as the flour.
Step 7
Add 1/4 tsp of salt on the same bowl as the flour and baking powder.
Step 8
Add one cup (2 sticks) of butter in ANOTHER (not in the bowl with the flour and baking powder and salt, NOR in the bowl of the egg whites) bowl and then add 1/2 cups of sugar (you can also add the original measurement which is 2 cups of sugar)
Step 9
Then mix (with a handheld mixer or stand mixer) the butter and sugar until smooth and creamy. Then add the 4 egg yolks AT A TIME.
Step 10
Then add the melted chocolate to the butter and sugar and keep mixing.
Step 11
Alternate Buttermilk and the flour mixture (the baking powder, salt and flour) then fold in the egg whites.
Step 12
Have two 9-inch pans buttered and floured (you can also use whatever baking spray you have like Baker's Joy).
Step 13
Then add the batter into the pans.
Step 14
Then add the cakes into the oven for 350° for 45 min or an hour, (keep an eye on it).
Step 15
Then just to be sure, insert a toothpick into the cakes after 30 minutes, then if it comes out wet, it needs like about 10-15 more minutes, then stick the toothpick in again, if it comes out with nothing, then it's ready!
Step 16
Now for the sauce, add two egg yolks in a small pot.
Step 17
Add a 12-oz can of evaporated milk.
Step 18
Set the stove to low-medium.
Step 19
Add a 1/2 tsp of Vanilla.
Step 20
Add 3/4 cup of Butter.
Step 21
Add 1 1/2 of Sugar (you can add less sugar if you're not a sweet tooth.
Step 22
Stir 15-20 minutes, or until pretty thick.
Step 23
Add in 2 cups of shredded coconut.
Step 24
Add 1/2 a cup of Pecans (I don't like pecans so I didn't add any).
