Instructions

Step 1
Wash asparagus bunch and snap woody parts off with hands (about 1/3 or 1/2 of each spear). If it bends and won't snap, try snapping higher up.
Step 2
Get a wide drinking glass or jar, I used a tall plastic cup, and put 4 tsp cane sugar in it. Add 1 cup room temp tap water and mix til dissolved.
Step 3
Put trimmed asparagus in tall cup with sugar water, making sure ends are in bottom of cup. Soak in fridge at least 2 hours before cooking.
Step 4
After at least 2 hours, remove from cup and put into big skillet. Rinse out cup and use it to pour in some fresh water into skillet with asparagus. Add a bit of salt and cover with lid.
Step 5
Cook on medium heat until steaming. Then, set a 10 minute timer. It should be soft when poked with a fork. Drain it with the lid over sink.
Step 6
Pour some seasoned salt into hand and measure out about 4 big pinches and sprinkle over asparagus spears. I stirred them with a mini silicone spatula. Your asparagus is done!
Step 7
The sugar water plumps up the asparagus and helps it flush out the bitter chemicals so it doesn't taste bitter when eaten. I got 2 big servings.
