Ingredients

2 tablespoonsshortening
2 poundsbeef stew meat
cut into 1-inch cubes
2onions
large, sliced
1 cupwater
2potatoes
large, pared and thinly sliced
1 x 10.5 ouncescan condensed cream of mushroom soup
1 cupdairy sour cream
1 ¼ cupsmilk
1 teaspoonsalt
¼ teaspoonpepper
1 cupshredded cheddar cheese
1 ¼ cupsWheaties cereal
crushed
Instructions
Step 1
Melt shortening in large skillet. Cook and stir meat and onion in shortening until meat is brown and onion is tender. Add water; heat to boiling. Reduce heat; cover and simmer 50 minutes.
Step 2
Heat oven to 350°F. Pour meat mixture into ungreased baking dish, 13x9x2 inches; arrange potato slices on meat.
Step 3
Stir together soup, sour cream, milk, salt and pepper; pour over potatoes. Sprinkle with cheese and cereal.
Step 4
Bake uncovered 1 1/2 hours or until potatoes and meat are tender.
