1 tspblack pepper
freshly cracked, or freshly ground black pepper
½ tspgarlic powder
2 Tbspcornstarch
or flour, optional, for a light crispy crust
⅓ cuphoney
3 Tbspsoy sauce
or low-sodium soy sauce
1 Tbspapple cider vinegar
or rice vinegar
5 clovesgarlic
finely minced
1 Tbspunsalted butter
1 tspcoarse black pepper
or cracked, adjust to heat preference
Instructions
Step 1
Pat the chicken thighs thoroughly dry with paper towels.
Step 2
Season both sides evenly with salt, 1 tsp black pepper, and garlic powder. Lightly dust with cornstarch/flour if desired for extra crispness.
Step 3
Heat 1 tbsp of oil in a heavy-bottomed skillet or cast-iron pan over medium-high heat.
Step 4
Add chicken thighs skin-side down (or top-side down) and sear for 5–7 minutes until deep golden brown and crispy.
Step 5
Flip the chicken and cook for another 4–5 minutes until nearly cooked through. Remove excess oil from the pan if needed, or set chicken aside briefly.
Step 6
Reduce heat to medium. Add minced garlic and butter to the skillet, sauteing for about 30–60 seconds until fragrant (do not burn the garlic).
Step 7
Pour in the honey, soy sauce, vinegar, and additional cracked black pepper. Stir well to combine and let it bubble for 1–2 minutes until slightly thickened.
Step 8
Return chicken thighs to the pan (or spoon the bubbling sauce directly over them in the skillet).
Step 9
Baste the chicken continuously with the glaze for 2 minutes until fully cooked through and evenly coated in a sticky, glossy sauce.
