Bread and Butter pickles

makes 7pint jars or 3quart jars

Instructions

cook

Step 1
combine sugar and spices and vinegar in a large saucepan bring to a boil, stirring till the sugar disolves

add cucumbers and onions and bring to a boil

Fill

Step 3
pack hot pickles and liquid into hot jar leaving 1/2 inch headspace
Step 4
add 1/8 teaspoon pickle crisp to each pint jar
Step 5
remove air bubbles (if desired)
Step 6
clear jar rims
Step 7
center lid on jar and adjust rim finger tight
Step 8
place jars on rack in canner over simmering water (180' F)
Step 9
repeat until all jars are full in canner
Step 10

lower rack into canner
Step 12
water must be 1 inch above top of jars
Step 13
adjust heat to medium high, cover canner, bring water to rolling boil
Step 14
process pint jars for 10 minutes
Step 15
turn off heat and remove canner lid
Step 16
let jars cool for 5 minutes in canner
Step 17
remove jars from canner DO NOT tighten bands if they are loose
Step 18
cool 12 hours check seals
Step 19
label and store
