This recipe is a treat amongst rural villages amongst the Tanzanian coast. It is sweet so could be eaten as a dessert, but traditionally it is eaten as a main meal. This recipe was submitted to Cook the Commonwealth by Margot.

Step 1
Fry the spaghetti in the vegetable oil until it is a bit brown.
Step 2
Add a litre boiling water and the sugar, along with the cinnamon (and vanilla essence if using).
Step 3
Boil the water until it evaporates
Step 4
Add raisins when pasta is boiled.
Step 5
Serve
