Instructions
Step 1
Preheat oven to 375°F. Line cookie sheets with parchment paper.
Step 2
Cream together shortening, sugar and brown sugar. Scrape down the sides of the bowl once or twice while mixing.
Step 3
Add eggs to creamed shortening/sugar mixture and mix two to three minutes until fluffy. Scrape down the sides of the bowl once or twice while mixing. Blend vanilla into egg/shortening/sugar mixture.
Step 4
Add flour to egg/shortening/sugar mixture then spread soda and salt evenly on top of flour. Mix until almost combined.
Step 5
Add chocolate chips and nuts (if desired) and mix briefly until combined.
Step 6
Form one inch round balls and place equally on prepared baking sheets a few inches apart.
Step 7
Bake at 375 degrees for eight to ten minutes until edges begin to brown.
Step 8
Let cool on baking sheet for five minutes. Transfer to wire racks until completely cooled.
