Instructions
Step 1
Mix well: soft shortening, confectioners' sugar, egg, almond flavoring, and vanilla.
Step 2
Sift together and stir in: flour and salt.
Step 3
Divide dough into halves.
Step 4
Blend into one half: food coloring.
Step 5
Roll 1 tsp. each color dough on lightly floured board into a strip about 4" long.
Step 6
Place strips side by side, press lightly together and twist like a rope. Place on ungreased baking sheet. Curve top down for handle of cane.
Step 7
Bake at 375 degrees for 9 minutes until lightly browned. Remove while still warm.
Step 8
Sprinkle with mixture of crushed peppermint stick candy and sugar - optional.
