Cream sugar and shortening and add eggs, flavors and buttermilk. Sift together flour, soda and salt and add. Mix well, Then add the German Chocolate that has been softened in a warm oven or in a double boiler. Blend together well. Cook in a 9" stem pan, that has been well greased and dusted with flour, about 1 1/2 hours at 300°. Remove cake from pan while still hot and place under a tight fitting cake cover and leave covered until cold.
