Instructions
Step 1
Preheat oven to moderate 180°C. Brush a shallow 23cm square cake tin with melted butter or oil.
Step 2
Place flour and butter in food processor bowl. Using pulse action, press the button for 20 seconds or until the mixture is fine and crumbly.
Step 3
Add water to bowl. Process 5 seconds or until combined. Turn out onto a lightly floured surface; knead 1 minute or until smooth.
Step 4
Press out two-thirds of the mixture large enough to cover the base of prepared tin. Place remaining one-third in freezer for about 20 minutes.
Step 5
Spread pastry base in tin with marmalade. Sprinkle with hazelnuts.
Step 6
Spoon apple evenly over hazelnuts and sprinkle over spice.
Step 7
Coarsely grate reserved pastry and sprinkle evenly over apple. Sprinkle with sugar.
Step 8
Bake for 1 hour or until golden. Cool slice in tin. Cut into fingers when cold.
