Step 1
Heat the oil in a large, deep pan.
Step 2
Saute the onions in the pan over low heat until they are very tender.
Step 3
Add the garlic, stirring the mixture until the onions turn golden.
Step 4
Add the garbanzos, tomatoes and their liquid, basil, chili powder, oregano, cilantro, and cumin.
Step 5
Cover and simmer over low heat for 25 minutes until thick.
