Step 1
Whisk milk and potato flakes in large bowl. Add beef, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1/2 teaspoon pepper, and kned until combined. Form into 4 1/2 inch thick patties. Refrigerate for 30 minutes to 4 four hours.
Step 2
Melt 1 tablespoon butter in nonstick skillet over medium high heat. Cook patties until well browned on each side. Transfer to plate.
Step 3
Add onion and three tablespoons of butter to empty skillet. Cook until onions are softened. Add mushrooms and 1/2 teaspoon salt and cook until liquid has evaporated, 5 to 7 minutes.
Step 4
Stir in tomato paste and flour and cook until browned. Slowly stir in port and broth and bring to simmer. Return patties to skillet, cover and simmer over low heat, 12 to 15 minutes. Season with salt and pepper, serve.
