Instructions

The dough

Step 1
Add all the ingredients to a bowl and firmly kneed for at least 10 min so you will be able to stretch it out real thin. Pit it an a plate and loosly cover it with plastic foil. Let it rest for half an hour on room temperature.

The stuffing

Step 2
Cut the apples in pieces of about ½ cm without the skin and the core. Mix it with the other ingredients

Rolling out the dough

Step 3
Preheat the oven on 200°C and put baking paper on the on a baking tray
Step 4
Place a sheet or large tea towel on the work surface and dust it with flour. Place the dough on top and also dust with some flour. Press the dough flat and then roll it out carefully, so that it gets bigger and bigger. At some point it is not possible to roll out the dough with the rolling pin, then you have to pull it out carefully by hand. Do this by gently putting your hand under the dough and pulling the dough out a bit. Make sure that the dough eventually measures around 55×55 centimeters.

Putting it all together

Step 5
Brush the dough with ⅔ of the melted butter. Spread the apple filling in a strip on the ⅓ line. Fold the dough on the bottom and side over the apple filling and then roll up the strudel further using the sheet or tea towel. Carefully place the strudel with the closure down on the baking tray.
Step 6
Brush the dough with the remaining melted butter and place the baking tray just below the center of the oven. Bake the apple strudel for 35-45 minutes until golden brown and done. Dust the apple strudel with icing sugar before serving
