Instructions

Step 1
The ham hough is totally optional, if you wish to leave this out just add some ham stock cubes/pots instead and skip the next step.
Step 2
Add the ham hough to a pot, cover with water and bring to the boil. Once boiling lower to a medium heat and simmer for 2 hours. This step can also be done on a slow cooker.
Step 3
Whilst the ham hough is cooking prep the veg. Start by peeling and dicing the carrot and turnip.
Step 4
Peel and dice the onion. Wash, trim and slice the leek.
Step 5
When the ham hough has finished cooking remove it from the water and skim any foam etc from the water.
Step 6
Rinse and add the lentils to the water and once softened add in the carrots and turnip and cook for 20 minutes.
Step 7
Add in the onion and leek and cook for a further 20 minutes.
Step 8
Whilst the soup is cooking remove the fat from the ham hough and dice the meat into small cubes and set aside.
Step 9
You can blend your soup until totally smooth or leave it a little chunky. After blending add in the ham hough.
Step 10
Add in some salt and pepper to taste and enjoy!
