Lo Mein Noodles

Recipe video above. If you want lip smackingly delicious Lo Mein noodles just like takeout, you just need to get the SAUCE right! The noodle part is easy - you can literally use any noodles, even pasta (yep, seriously). Also, switch out the vegetables with 5 cups (packed) of any chopped vegetables of choice.

Ingredients

½ teaspoongarlic powder

2carrots
medium, peeled and cut into 4 x 0.75cm / 1.75 x 1/3" batons
1bell pepper
large, sliced, or 2 small
6green onions
cut into 5 cm/2” lengths
225gramen noodles
uncooked
65mlwater
Sauce
1 ½ tspcornstarch
2 Tbspdark soy sauce
2 Tbspsoy sauce
or light soy sauce
1 TbspChinese cooking wine
or Mirin
1 tspwhite sugar
omit if using mirin
½ tspsesame oil
toasted, optional
¼ tspwhite pepper
sub black

Instructions
Sauce
Step 1
Mix cornflour and dark soy until lump free, then add remaining Sauce ingredients.
Noodles
Step 2
Soak tvp in vegetable broth while chopping the veggies
Step 3
Cook the noodles as package direction then drain and rinse with cold water to block the cooking process.
Step 4
Heat oil in a wok or large heavy based skillet over high heat until smoking.
Step 5
Add onion and garlic, stir 30 seconds.
Step 6
Add tvp, stir until golden - 1 minute.
Step 7
Add carrot and bell peppers, cook 2 minutes.
Step 8
Add noodles, Sauce and water. Use 2 wooden spoons and toss for 30 seconds.
Step 9
Add green onions, toss for another minute until all the noodles are slick with sauce.
Step 10
Serve immediately, garnished with extra green onions!
