Instructions

Step 1
Combine all dry ingredients into large bowl
Step 2
In liquid measuring cup, beat egg and add enough buttermilk to egg to make 2 cups
Step 3
Cut in butter to dry ingredients. Make sure butter stays cold as possible (like pie dough).
Step 4
Add raisins to dry ingredients and combine.
Step 5
Add liquid buttermilk/egg mixture to dry. Mix gently with wooden spoon then mix with hands. DO NOT KNEAD DOUGH.
Step 6
Dump dough onto flour surface and shape round. Place into buttered and floured skillet, frying pan, or Dutch oven.
Step 7
Cut cross with butter knife into top of bread.
Step 8
Baked at 400F for 15 minutes and 350F for 20 minutes until brown on top. Let cool before enjoying.
