Chilli powder

Chilli powderPantry

The kitchen staple that is chili powder (or chilli powder in British English) packs a real flavor bomb and is a crucial ingredient in cuisines like Mexican and Indian. But there’s more to it than just ground up, crushed, or dehydrated chilies. People often think chili powder and paprika powder are the same thing, just with different spice or heat levels. In reality though, there’s a small difference. Chilli or chili powder is usually a combination of different types of peppers. Common ones include ancho and cascabel, but it could be almost anything. It usually also includes other ingredients like cumin, garlic, and yes
paprika. The taste can vary depending on the exact blend of ingredients. Paprika powder itself though is created from only paprika peppers and has no other ingredients. Then what about chili flavored seasoning mixes? Again, they’re pretty similar but not exactly the same. While seasoning mixes tend to use a thickening agent to make sauces and soups a better consistency, chili powder doesn’t. One thing’s for sure, whatever precise blend or brand you go for, it’s sure to amp up the heat and the flavor in your food. Whether you like adding a kick to your enchiladas or like to rub your BBQ ribs with some extra heat, it’s a very versatile addition to the spice rack. If you haven’t found the perfect one off the shelf, why not try making it yourself? That way you can customize it to include the exact type of chilies and spices you like and use the most.
