Bread sauce

I made it exactly as the recipe, and it was a bit bland. For my second attempt, I fried the onion in the butter, along with the garlic, before adding the other ingredients. And I used rosemary instead of thyme. A much better flavour. Just the way my mum used to make it.

Perfect every time.

Easy to make, great taste. I added mixed spice instead of nutmeg to give it a more rounded flavour

Used double cream. And half the recipe made more than enough for 5! Added a couple of Juniper berries to the milk.

So much tastier than packet bread sauce mix and not a lot more trouble. Perfect with a roast gammon joint!
