Easy San Marzano Tomato Sauce

Instructions

Step 1
Pour the can of San Marzano tomatoes in a large bowl and smash with a potato masher until desired texture. I kept some chunks in mine. Alternatively, add the tomatoes to a food processor and pulse to desired texture.
Step 2
Heat olive oil in a large sauté pan or saucepan over medium low heat. Add garlic and cook for 3 minutes, stirring often so the garlic doesn't burn. Add the optional red pepper flakes and cook for another minute, stirring often.
Step 3
Add the crushed tomatoes, water, granulated sugar, and salt & pepper to taste. Stir ingredients to combine.
Step 4
Add the fresh basil. Simmer the sauce for 10 minutes.
Step 5
Serve the sauce with the dish of your choice such as pasta or pizza.
