Bolognese sauce/ homemade tomato sauce
4 steps
Prep:10minCook:20min
This sauce can be a meal on its own, or is amazing over spaghetti squash, zucchini shreds or lentil pasta for babies once they are old enough. Adding the ground meat is optional here, but I love it for substance, iron and protein for your baby.

Instructions
Step 1
In a stock pot over low heat, add a large splash of olive oil and let the pan warm. Add chopped onion and garlic and saute until softened, approximately 5-6 minutes.
Step 2
Add butter and olive oil. Then add carrots and celery and let cook another 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. If adding meat, remove all veggies from the pot and set aside.
Step 3
Turn up the heat to medium-high, add another splash of olive oil and cook meat until it browns.
Step 4
Add veggies back to the pot, then add tomatoes and spices. Reduce to a simmer to let cook for 10 minutes (or up to a few hours if you have the time).
