Ingredients
6 servings

1 poundsplit peas

4 quartspurified water

1 poundham shank
with meat

1onion
medium to large, finely chopped

2chicken boullion cubes

1garlic clove
finely chopped

¼ teaspoongarlic powder

¼ teaspoonmarjoram

6whole peppercorns

¼ teaspoonground pepper

1bay leaf

⅛ teaspoonbaking soda

2 cupscarrots
sliced into 1 inch coins

1 cupscelery
sliced into 1 inch pieces
Instructions
Step 1
Wash, clean and rinse peas several times.
Step 2
In a large stock pot add the first 12 ingredients.
Step 3
Simmer uncovered for 1 1/2 hours.
Step 4
Remove the ham shank and trim off the meat.
Step 5
Return the meat to the pot; add the carrots and celery.
Step 6
Simmer uncovered 2 - 2 1/2 hours until the soup reaches desired thickness.
