Kofta bake with a Lemony Tahini Sauce

This is one of my favourite Palestinian meals! And one of my mother’s go-to’s when she has dinner parties as one of the main dishes, but also a go-to for a quick weeknight dinner. You can assemble the pan with the spiced ground beef bake it off when you’re ready and a delicious meal will be on your table within 30 minutes. Quick note: you can absolutely make small kabab’s rather than laying it out flat, but this is the way that my mom makes it, so this is one of those things that if it’s not broke, don’t fix it. Also much easier!

Instructions

Step 1
In a small food processor, finely mince the onion and parsley.
Step 2
To the ground beef in your pan of choice (I used a 14-inch round dish with high sides) add the minced onion, minced parsley, minced garlic, Arabic 7 spice, allspice, cinnamon, cumin, cardamom, black pepper and salt.
Step 3
Preheat oven at 350 F. Knead everything through until evenly mixed. Lay the mixture flat in the pan. Bake for 20 minutes.
Step 4
Remove from the oven and pour out excess fat into a dish and leave about ¼ cup of fat in the pan.
Step 5
Make the lemony tahini sauce in a blender by adding tahini, water, lemon juice, cumin, and salt. Blend until smooth.
Step 6
Pour this sauce over the kofta. Dip the air fried potato slices in the tahini sauce and arrange them over the kofta.
Step 7
Place the pan back in the oven for 5 minutes. Remove it and give the pan a little shake to stir around the sauce. Place the pan back in the oven for another 5 minutes.
Step 8
Remove from the oven and serve hot. Slice and serve with pita bread and a salad.
