Instructions
Step 1
Butter a 9 inch round pan and preheat the oven to 375°F. Set the pan aside.
Step 2
Peel and core the apples before slicing into thin 1/8 – 1/4″ slices. Place in a large mixing bowl and add the rest of the ingredients for the apple layer. Use your hands or a wooden spoon to mix together until the apples are evenly coated.
Step 3
Add the apples to the buttered dish and arrange in an even layer. Set aside.
Step 4
In a medium bowl, stir together the oats, nuts, flour, sugar, maples syrup, spices and salt. Use pastry cutter, a fork or your hands to cut the butter into the mixture until it resembles wet sand and clumps together. Sprinkle the mixture evenly over the apples.
Step 5
Bake at 375°F for 10 minutes before reducing the temperature to 350°F and baking for 35 more minutes or until the topping is golden brown and the apple layer is bubbling. Allow to cool before eating. We recommend serving with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream 🙂
